South London and Maudsley Hospital Trust

Bethlem Hospital is one of three within the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, based in 270 acres of green space in Bromley.

The campus provides a number of specialist services for people across the UK such as anxiety disorders and psychiatric conditions. In fact, Bethlem is the oldest psychiatric institution in the world, dating back to 1247, with location on the current site from 1930.

Across the site at Bethlem there are buildings dating from every decade since occupation on the site, a large proportion of the buildings are dated from the 1930’s and 40’s with the new River House secure facility built in 2014 to the high standards of current building regulations.

Such an important site for the Trust it is no surprise that significant investment has been made in sustainability, and with that over the years metering has been installed with regular monitoring undertaken. However, like so many other metering systems installed 10-15 years ago service contracts lapsed, and staff changes has rendered it un-operational for a number of years.
